Fact: The IRS audited 1.7 million taxpayers in 2010.
Uncle Sam has been more aggressive in closing the tax gap in recent years. Since 2009, the number of annual audits by the IRS has risen by 12 percent with 1.7 million taxpayers being audited last year.
